Applications Open for Young Water Diplomats 2027 Programme for Early-Career Water Professionals
October 13, 2026 — Applications are now open for the Young Water Diplomats 2027 programme, a six-month part-time course for early-career diplomats and professionals working in, or interested in, international water and environmental affairs. The programme starts in February 2027, and the application deadline is 30 November 2026.
Background
Many of the world’s rivers, lakes and aquifers cross national borders, which makes water cooperation a diplomatic skill as well as a technical one. Climate change, growing demand and competition for shared resources are adding pressure to those relationships. The Young Water Diplomats programme is designed to give a new generation of professionals the knowledge and practical skills to manage these challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
What the Programme Offers
The programme gives participants the opportunity to:
- Deepen their understanding of transboundary water-related challenges
- Develop practical skills in water cooperation and diplomacy
- Connect with peers from around the world
Programme Structure
The programme runs from 4 February to 7 July 2027. It combines three elements: ten online lectures, individual and collaborative assignments, and two in-person workshops:
- Tashkent, Uzbekistan: 12–15 April 2027
- Delft, the Netherlands: 5–7 July 2027
Who Can Apply
The programme welcomes early-career diplomats and professionals who work in, or are interested in, international water and environmental affairs.
How to Apply
The application deadline is 30 November 2026. Full details and the application link are on the programme page at un-ihe.org, under the Young Water Diplomats programme.
Conclusion
For early-career professionals in water, environment and foreign affairs, the programme combines online learning, collaborative assignments and two in-person workshops in Central Asia and Europe. With the 30 November 2026 deadline several weeks away, interested applicants have time to prepare, but should plan to apply early to secure a place in the February 2027 cohort.
