CPEC Milestone: Suki Kinari hydropower begins electricity production
August 13, 2024 (MLN): A major development has emerged through the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for Pakistan as the first unit of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station has started generating electricity.
According to a statement by Xiong Fei, Chairman of China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd, the company has invested in the Suki Kinari project.
Based on the details disclosed, the project has a power generation capacity of 884 MW and four impulse turbine units have been installed at the Suki Kinari project.
Initially, 221 MW of electricity has been connected to the transmission line, with the project entering its final phase.
After completion, Suki Kinari will generate up to 3.212 billion kilowatts of electricity annually, the statement said.
Moreover, it will provide affordable electricity to more than 1 million households in Pakistan.
