Women Media Center Opens Environmental Accountability Fellowship for Journalists to Investigate Indus Delta Crisis

Karachi, October 8, 2026 — Women Media Center (WMC) has issued a call for applications for its Environmental Accountability Fellowship, an Investigative Reporting Fellowship inviting journalists from across Sindh to produce an in-depth story on the climate change impact on the Indus Delta, its human cost and the government’s response. The deadline to apply is 17 October 2026.

Background

The Indus Delta, where the Indus River meets the Arabian Sea in southern Sindh, is changing under the combined pressure of climate change and shifting water flows. These changes are affecting the people and ecosystems that depend on the delta. Communities whose livelihoods rest on farming, fishing and the delta’s natural resources are among those most exposed. The fellowship is designed to bring that crisis into sharper public focus through rigorous, evidence-based journalism.

Under the call “Indus Delta in Crisis, Are You Ready to Report?”, WMC is seeking stories that investigate how the changing delta is affecting people and their livelihoods, agriculture, marine life and wildlife. The stories must also examine the government policies, interventions and actions meant to address these challenges.

What the Fellowship Offers

Selected fellows will develop their stories under the mentorship of senior journalists, with editorial guidance throughout the reporting process. Stories may be submitted in Urdu, Sindhi or English.

  • Time to report: Each fellow will have three weeks to research and develop the story.
  • Editorial review: Completed stories will be submitted to an editor for review and approval.
  • Publication: Fellows are responsible for securing publication of the finished story in a national or local newspaper, an established news website or a magazine within the stipulated period.
  • Stipend: Each fellow will receive Rs. 50,000 upon publication of the story.

Who Can Apply

  • Journalists with at least three years of professional experience in print, online media or freelance journalism
  • Applicants must submit a story proposal and three published work samples from the past two years
  • Journalists from remote areas, women journalists and journalists from minority communities are especially encouraged to apply

How to Apply

Interested journalists can apply through the online form at forms.gle/jBaz5pnRpAgQTni59 by 17 October 2026. Selected applicants will be notified by email and phone.

Conclusion

The WMC fellowship offers Sindh-based journalists structured support, mentorship and a stipend to report on one of the province’s most pressing environmental stories. By encouraging reporting in Urdu, Sindhi and English, and by prioritizing journalists from remote areas, women and minority communities, the programme aims to bring the voices, evidence and untold stories of the Indus Delta to a wider public. Interested applicants have only a few days left to prepare a proposal and work samples before the 17 October deadline.
