Islamabad: During the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan, held in Geneva, the pledges of over nine billion dollars were made which some experts have termed as a great victory for Pakistan’s leadership, especially Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his dedicated team as the incumbent government’s efforts have succeeded to win International community’s support Pakistan.

Some called that these financial pledge are an expression of solidarity, brotherhood and unity with the people of Pakistan at Geneva moot.

The breakout of pledges worth $9.7 billion for the Pakistan flood victims is as under.

  1. Islamic Development Bank promised $4.2 billion,
  2. World Bank $2 billion,
  3. Saudi Arab $1 billion,
  4. Asian Infrastructure Development Bank $1 billion,
  5. Asian Development Bank $500 million,
  6. USAID $100 million,
  7. China $100 million,
  8. Italy €23 million
  9. Japan $77 million,
  10. Qatar $25 million,
  11. UK £36 million,
  12. France $10 million

Reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-affected areas will be made a successful model by ensuring complete transparency in utilization of funds, pledged at the Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference in Geneva, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated while addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Wednesday flanked by the cabinet members of the coalition government.

We will not disappoint the nation and each penny will be utilized in a transparent manner for rehabilitation of the flood affected people and reconstruction of damaged homes and other infrastructure including roads and bridges, Shehbaz Sharif said.

For the pivotal role making Resilient Pakistan Conference a sound success, Pakistan Prime Minister thanked the all friends, donors and partners especially, UN Secretary General General Antonio Guterres, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Islamic Development Bank, World Bank  and others.

He thanked all friends for pledging two billion dollars for recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation at Geneva conference.

About transparency of funding utility, Sheba Sharif said the process of third party validation will be pursued for this purpose which will send a strong message to donors and lenders.

Pakistan is paying the price of industrialization of the developing countries but country itself is the least contributor to the greenhouse carbon emissions yet among the most vulnerable to climate change.

The recent floods caused damage worth $30 billion and that the rehabilitation and disaster-reconstruction needs had been estimated at $16.3 billion. Pakistan’s vulnerability to natural disasters is a reality and the world has joined hands with Pakistani nation to Rebuild Better Pakistan.
