Minister calls for National Action Plan to conserve water
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has emphasized that a National Action Plan is needed to stop the wastage of water in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The minister was addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Friday.
He said we have to stop the wastage of water as we possess a large quantity of it. He stressed the need to chalk out a National Action Plan to conserve water.
He said that we have got the same amount of water that we used to have 65 years ago. He confessed that in order to conserve water, we made some dams but some dams could not be built.
The minister rued that like water, we also make unnecessary use of energy. He said that a water awareness campaign is necessary to stop its wastage.
The country is facing a serious water crisis and is rapidly moving from being classified as water “stressed” to water “scarce” country.
The latest UN report ‘Global Water Security 2023 Assessment’ places Pakistan in the critically water-insecure category, indicating that the country is facing a water emergency that requires immediate attention.
