Position Objective
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for communicating GCF’s work by developing and producing GCF’s key messages and communication products and undertaking media outreach to shape GCF’s public profile and contribute to advancing GCF’s external relations strategy.   The Communications Specialist will contribute to the development of media strategy and will support the strengthening of GCF’s media approach across international, regional and national levels, whilst developing content that will expand its digital presence.

Purpose 

  • Drive the development and execution of GCF’s media strategy, representing GCF in media engagements and independently developing relationships with key media outlets at international, regional and national levels to secure coverage of the organization’s role within both beneficiary and contributor countries.
  • Innovate, originate, develop and produce content for communication products to raise GCF’s profile, enhance its brand and inform of its results and achievements, including collecting multimedia and project stories from the field.
  • Write, review and edit copy for various audiences (external, internal) and communications channels, including digital, social and media engagement, shaping GCF’s external messaging and developing its corporate voice.

Engagement

  • Represent GCF with external stakeholders especially media and content partners; develop relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop, promote and disseminate content.
  • Advise partners on the development of content for use in GCF communications; secure support from them to raise GCF’s profile and support its messaging; adapt content that match GCF’s objectives and messaging.
  • Build and sustains relationships of trust across the Secretariat, coordinate with internal stakeholders in the development of topline corporate messaging for outreach and engagements.

Delivery

  • Develop frameworks for communication materials; draft high-quality materials that communicate how GCF works and its impact.
  • Monitor media landscape to identify risks and opportunities for GCF and undertake proactive issue management.
  • Develop op-eds, briefing notes, pitches to media, and manage media enquiries.

Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

  • Advanced university degree in international relations, economics, journalism, communications, etc. or Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) additional years of experience.
  • At least 9 years of relevant international communications experience and a proven track record of good political judgement, discretion, and strong engagement with media and / or stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain relationships with key partners.
  • Experience in working with colleagues from different functions and cultures and solid interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English (Native level), as well as oral communication skills in English; knowledge of other languages a plus.
  • Experience in digital influence areas preferred.
