US Vice President Kamala Harris to Represent USA Leadership at COP28 Climate Summit in UAE
New York: US Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the upcoming COP28 Climate Summit being held in Dubai, according local media reports.
Kamala Harris will highlight US leadership in tackling the global emergency of Climate Change.
The 28th meeting of the United Nations “Conference of the Parties” on climate crisis, known as COP28, will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a major oil producer.
Other global leaders expected to attend the COP28 that begins on Thursday are; US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
US President Joe Biden would not attend the gathering due to domestic engagements, news media reported.
John Kerry, the US special envoy for the Climate Change will be leading day-to-day negotiations for the United States.
Ahead of COP28, Kerry had held talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, with the two negotiators promising that their countries, the world’s two largest greenhouse gas emitters, would work together for progress of greener world in Dubai, UAE.
Some 70,000 people including national leaders and Pope Francis are expected at COP28 as it opens Thursday, in what could be the largest United Nations climate summit ever.
