Tajikistan Hosts Dushanbe Water Process
DUSHANBE: The Republic of Tajikistan, on 6-9 June 2022, hosted DUSHANBE WATER PROCESS, 2nd High-Level International Conference on International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.
The biennial conferences under the Dushanbe Water Process provided opportunities to create an enabling environment and platform for promotion of action, partnership and policy dialogue, review the implementation of the Decade, as well as to promote interlinkages with and contribute to other relevant processes.
The Conference was co-chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.
The forum entitled: Regional Water Cooperation Forum” in Central Asia was organized by World Bank Group and International Fund for Saving Aral Sea.
Along with Central Asian countries of ECO region, high level representatives from international organizations, including UN bodies, European Union, diplomatic missions accredited in Dushanbe, as well as interest groups of international NPOs and academia participated in the event.
Primary topic was aimed at revealing recent situation of water issues of Central Asia, particularly challenges on saving Aral Sea. Successful cases of regional cooperation and initiatives have been presented to the audience.
Speakers vowed on strengthening cooperation and increasing awareness of water issues in Central Asia through enhanced partnership and global consolidation to address issues from grassroots up to all stakeholders covering main aspects of water management.
