Seminar: Climate Finance, Towards Securing Sustainable Resilience in Pakistan

Islamabad:  A seminar “Climate Finance: Towards securing sustainable resilience in Pakistan”, highlighting Pakistan’s current situation in terms of climate change resilience, and global priorities for 2024, especially from COP 29, will be held on 14th May, 2024 at 1500 hrs at the Institute of Regional Studies (IRC), 2 Ataturk Avenue, F5/2 Islamabad.

The session aims to create awareness and understanding about issues related to climate Change, its worse impacts on Pakistan, relevant policies, climate diplomacy, carbon market, sustainability, climate financing and climate change resilience initiatives taken by the government of Pakistan.

The session will be attended by the experts, scholars, policy makers and researchers besides the “distinguished observer” and discussants.

During the floods of 2022, Pakistan suffered losses of approximately USD 15 billion, while only USD 9.7 billion was pledged in Geneva and a mere USD 221 million was received. Over the past decade, Pakistan has received only USD 1.4-2.0 billion per year in climate finance, against an annual requirement of USD 7-14 billion. Despite the escalating need, from 2023 to 2030, around USD 348 billion will be required for Pakistan alone.

Recognizing the existential threat of climate change, there is a pressing need to leverage domestic financing and explore participation in Carbon Markets for sustainable development.
