Riyadh: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has announced water conservation initiative, Global Water Organization, focusing on Water Conservation, #SDG6, and environmental sustainability, according to new report of Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Headquartered in the capital Riyadh, Global Water Organization will play a pivotal role in consolidating and enhancing global efforts to secure sustainable water resources, according media reports.
Briefing on the objectives of the organization, sources stated GWO would encompass the exchange of knowledge and expertise, the advancement of water technology, the stimulation of innovation, and the sharing of research and development experiences for water conservation.
In addition, GWO mandate will include actively advocating for the initiation and funding of high-priority projects aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of water resources while ensuring access to water for all, sources added.
Moreover, this new initiative underscores Kingdoms’ commitment to addressing the challenges associated with global water supply, SPA noted.
Also, the water conservation initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader dedication to environmental sustainability, it added.
The Kingdom, in collaboration with all member countries of the organization, aspires to contribute to the realization of sustainable development goals related to water security, official sources added.
Saudi Arabia is classified as one of the most water-scarce nations on the planet.
Water shortages pose a serious challenge to both lives and livelihoods as farmers and cities compete for this precious natural resource and stretch water systems,” said Ferid Belhaj, World Bank Vice President for the MENA region.
Climate Experts hope that new initiative by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will facilitate in conservation of water resources, and the water sources will be sustainable and accessible for everyone.
