Paris: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the international community to make a judicious formula, a policy for economic justice and fairness, for the distribution of financial resources for the world peace.
The international community should deliver on the commitments they made at COP 27 in Sharm al-Sheikh, including the operationalisation of Loss & Damage Fund on the principle of equity; provision of grants that don’t increase indebtedness of developing countries; enabling climate-vulnerable countries to access the Fund on the basis of a climate vulnerability index, he stated.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made these remarks while addressing the New Global Financial Pact Summit held French capital city Paris on Thursday.
PM Shehbaz Sharif asked the international powerful bodies to come forward in generous terms to formulate and provide an opportunity, a system and a mechanism to satisfy the most vulnerable at a minimum and create harmony in terms of economic justice and fairness to save the world from trouble, quoted Radio Pakistan.
“unless we come out with a fair, comfortable and judicious formula for the distribution of financial resources, the world will never be in peace, he stressed.
Presenting the details about destructions caused by climate-induced devastating floods in Pakistan in 2022, the Prime Minister said we had the most devastating floods in Pakistan, which completely changed our lifestyle in major parts of the country crippled by economic crunch.
He further added 33 million people were affected; millions of Acers of standing crops were washed away.
He also said seventeen hundred people died in general, half a million animals were drowned and two million houses either completely demolished or partially damaged.
now we have to cope up hundreds of millions of dollars from our pockets with our scar resources and provide money to the flood-affected people of the country, said PM Shehbaz Sharif.
Also, he expressed gratitude to friendly countries for their valuable and timely response, support and contribution in rebuilding the devastated parts of country.
The Prime Minister said there are tensions around the globe, but saving humanity from suffering is also essential.
He also lauded the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for visiting Pakistan to personally witness the on-ground realities and visiting the relief camps in different areas far-flung areas of Pakistan.
The premier also hailed French President Emanuel Macron for holding the summit to highlight the sufferings of the developing countries due to the impacts of climate change and poverty.
PM Sharif on Thursday joined the world leaders at the inaugural session of the Summit for New Global Financing Pact. French President Emmanuel Macron is chairing the Summit which is being attended by over 50 heads of states.
As a leading stakeholder in G-77 plus China grouping and also as a country adversely hit by climate change threat, Pakistan is better positioned for this role.
The two-day Summit will conclude on June 23 (Friday).
