Flood disasters in Assam, three more people died, 5.35 lakh people affected, many new areas under water
The death toll from floods and storms since May 28 has risen to 18. According to ASDMA bulletin, three major rivers, Kopili, Barak and Kashiara are flowing above the danger mark.
The flood situation in Assam remains critical as three more people have died due to heavy rains while several new areas of the state have been inundated. But on the other hand, an official bulletin said that the number of people affected by the flood has decreased slightly.
According to the bulletin, the rivers in the state are still flooded and the affected people from different areas have taken shelter in relief camps. A bulletin by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday night said that 5,35,246 people in 13 districts are still affected by the floods. On Saturday, the number of people affected by the floods in 10 districts was 6,01,642.
With two deaths in Kachhar and one in Nagaon, the death toll from floods and storms since May 28 has risen to 18. According to ASDMA bulletin, three major rivers, Kopili, Barak and Kashiara are flowing above the danger mark. More than 39,000 displaced persons are sheltered in 193 relief camps in different districts. Along with this, 82 other relief centers have also been established.
Several agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration are carrying out relief and rescue operations while medical teams have also been deployed in the affected areas. There are reports of damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges and other properties due to floods from various districts.
