Blistering Heatwave Grips Pakistan Leading to Acute Water Shortages

Islamabad: A blistering heatwave is gripping Pakistan leading to acute water shortages and a threat to health, officials warned after scorching temperatures went up in 50C in Southern Pakistan.

The Indus river – Pakistan’s key waterway – had shrunk by 65 percent “due to a lack of rains and snow” this year, Adnan Hassan,Punjab province irrigation spokesperson said.

Pakistan authorities needs to take serious measures for water conservation to avoid dryness and droughts, damaging agriculture and national economy.
