Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Office has entrusted tasks to sixteen ministries and departments to support the federal and provincial governments to avoid any loss of life and property during the unusual monsoon season that had killed 13 people in twin cities of Islamabad-Rawalpindi.

According to reports, Prime Minister’s House has dispatched directives to the concerned authorities to be vigilant, alert and make rescue and relief preparations if any untoward accident happens due to monsoon rains which are likely to continue till July 23,2023.

The departments that would assist the federal and provincial governments included the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Federal Flood Commission (FFC), Ministry of Water Resources, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and National Heritage, Ministry of Railways, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Police Services, Armed Forces, local and foreign non-governmental organizations, National Highway Authority (NHA), Communication and Works Departments and Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).

Met Office informed that heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore from 18th (night) to 22nd July and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period.
