Another serious impact of climate change has been revealed by the World Meteorological Organization

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) of the United Nations has revealed another dangerous effect of climate change.

The State of Global Water Resources report released by the World Organization stated that the balance of the water cycle (circulation of water on the surface of the earth through evaporation and condensation) is rapidly deteriorating due to climate change.

WMO Secretary-General Professor Petteri Taalas said: ‘We are seeing heavy rains and floods in some regions, and in some areas more water is evaporating, drying the surface and exacerbating droughts. has gone’.

The report found that more than 50 percent of our world’s catchments (areas where water drains into a river) have experienced a decline in river water levels, and most areas have become drier than normal, which An example is the Yangtze River in China.

The report also stated that on the other hand, in some regions like Pakistan, more than 17 hundred people died due to floods last year.

The WMO said that we still know very little about the true state of the world’s fresh water reserves.

A fundamental change in the policies regarding the water situation was also demanded by the international organization.

According to the United Nations, 3.6 billion people around the world are facing difficulties in getting adequate amount of water for at least one month every year.

If the situation does not improve, this number will increase to more than 5 billion by 2050.

According to the report, glaciers and ice sheets are melting rapidly while the temperature is continuously increasing, due to which the water cycle has been affected.
