Singapore’s Green Cooperation partnership with Australia
Towards achieving the green goal, Australia and Singapore have signed a #GreenEconomy agreement that would support clean energy innovation between the two nations.
“The green economy agreement signals collective resolve to confront challenges as we transition our economies to net zero. It will support clean energy #innovation, unlock business opportunities and create jobs, and help deliver our emission’s targets while positioning Australia as a renewable energy superpower, said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese while hosting his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong in Canberra where the pair signed the agreement.
Singapore’s Green Cooperation partnership with #VIETNAM
Similarly, leadership of Vietnam and Singapore exchanges ideas and proposals about a digital and green economic partnership during Singapore President Halimah Yacob’s state visit to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this week.
According to local media, both the ASEAN countries signed of four agreements, two of which dealt with trading renewable energy and carbon credits. Singapore President also toured a showcase of 10 Singapore companies that use innovative green products and technologies as part of their environmental, social and governance efforts.
Additionally, in June 2022, Singapore began importing renewable energy from Laos via Thailand and Malaysia. The move marked the first multilateral cross-border electricity trade involving four #ASEAN countries and the first renewable energy import into Singapore.
Talking to media Halimah Yacob said “It will certainly contribute towards our zero-emissions target because we will have more renewable energy for our use. Not just for our use, if there’s excess, then it goes through the ASEAN region and helps to strengthen #ASEAN solidarity,” she said, noting that both Singapore and Vietnam have pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In August2022, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the largest seaport in Europe, for the creation of a Green and Digital Corridor for sustainable shipping facilities aimed to promote low and zero-carbon shipping services.
The green economy initiatives, efforts and cooperation partnerships with ASEAN and Asia-Pacific nations are showcasing Singapore’s leadership role towards transforming Singapore, ASEAN, ASIA AND ASIA-PACIFIC into a greener and more sustainable part of the globe.
